Instagram

Feed photos, carousels of up to ten images, and Reels — never text on its own.

An isometric drawing of two plates, each with a square recess. The left recess holds a tile that fits it exactly; the right recess is empty and barred.

What Duta sends today

Instagram cannot publish a text-only post. Every post needs at least one photo or video, and Duta will not let you schedule one to Instagram without it.

A feed photo and a Reel use different shapes, and Instagram is strict about both — Duta checks the file against the right one while you are still choosing it.

Carousels of several images are supported, and each image can carry its own description for a screen reader.

The real limits

Read from the same adapter Duta's compose screen checks a post against — not typed out separately, so this cannot say something the product does not actually enforce.

Text and media limits for Instagram
TextUp to 2,200 characters
Media requiredYes
PhotosUp to 10 per post, 8 MB each, image/jpeg only, shape between 4:5 and 1.91:1
VideoUp to 300 MB, up to 15 min, at least 3 sec, video/mp4 or video/quicktime only

Worth knowing

  • Images must be JPEG. Instagram's publishing API documents JPEG only, and a PNG that looks fine on your screen fails with an error that never mentions the format — Duta refuses it the moment you choose the file rather than after it is scheduled.
  • Publishing is a two-step process behind the scenes: the file is handed to Instagram, Instagram is asked to fetch and process it, and only then is it published. Stopping after the first step looks like success and posts nothing.
  • Alt text works on photos, not on Reels — Instagram rejects a description on video outright, so Duta never sends one with a Reel.

Connecting Instagram

Instagram is not open for new connections yet — Duta is waiting on the platform to approve access. Nothing already connected is affected. The other channels can be connected now.
